As we have been working in and around the park while planting we came across a lot of dog mess (bagged and un-bagged) but just left amongst the grass. As we work to cut back and allow the trees to breathe around the base, clear areas for new bulbs, new planting of grasses and wild flowers, we will be putting up new Anti Dog Fouling signs which were kindly donated by a local resident – Big Thanks to them 🙂
The new signs are made from weatherproof recycled plastic so should last a lot longer than previously used, we hope none will go missing this time and they help spread the message that dog owners need to start taking responsibility for their dogs mess.
As a Children’s Park, it is important that all dog mess is picked up, bagged and BINNED, especially so with Mill O Forest School in the vicinity. Hamishs Park is also a concern with the fence in its current condition which allows dogs to enter and do as they wish.
We recently did another walk round and have notified Aberdeenshire Council Waste team regarding the bins in the park – All require additional stickers emphasising the fact these are both litter bins and dog waste bins.
The current bins;
1). Black refuse bin next to entrance from Mill O Forest School
2). Black refuse bin next to the Car Park entrance & recycling area
3). Metal black refuse bin at entrance to Hamishs Park
We have also requested an additional bin to be located at the entrance nearest Forest View Centre / Forest Drive road as no bin here and this is where we found many dog waste bags. And asked for more stickers on lampposts leading to and alongside the park.
We hope more visibility will lead to less dog mess being left in the park.
