Friends of Forest Drive Park are fully behind the Plastic Free Pledge and are happy to try and do our bit to help change attitudes and opinions regarding single use plastics in our everyday lives. From beaches and green spaces right back to the brands and businesses that create it.
It’s not about removing all plastic from our lives. It’s about kicking our addiction to throwaway plastic, and changing the system that produces it. With one in every ten barrels of oil now used to create new plastic, if we ever want to rid our oceans and landfill sites of plastic, we need to act together so we can make sure we don’t choke our coast, streets, parks and playgrounds with it.
If it’s on our streets today, it’s in our rivers tomorrow, and our beaches and oceans forever.
We can make sure each of us understands that we can change this, whoever we are and wherever we live.
But we can only do it together.
We have pledged to remove at least 3 things from our day to day lives, commit to include our stance on single use plastics in our communications where necessary and help raise awareness in the community.
1) The benches and picnic tables we are looking to purchase are all made from 100% recycled plastic with minimum maintenance and 25 year guarantee.
2) The tree supports we have been using are all rubber and can be re-used over and over again.
3) Our new anti dog fouling signs are all made from recycled plastic.
4) When we hold any future events in the park we will remind all friends and members of the public to use re-usable cups, containers and cutlery.
5) When we litter pick in the park, we will recycle as many items as we can.
6) We will also try to use compostable refuse bags.
